  • Wow I'm right here in California with you and didn't know you had updated your site. Plus I've been waiting for your big announcement since you mentioned it a couple of blogs ago.

The title fits...it says more, more than just a trip on a bike. Perfect!
  • If I had known that I'd have told you :D oops. That's funny - well, I'm glad you like... like I just mentioned... cause you're standing infront of me dusting the tv :P
  • Hey Mike,

It's been a while since I have looked on the site but it looks great - glad to see the documentary is finally coming together. I got your letter and I have one of the buttons on my backpack. I'll be in Burlington VT for a while as I have just been accepted to Grad School here. Drop me a line if you're in the area farmers.ride<at>gmail.com

The artwork looks like what I saw as I was approaching glacier national park as I rode down rt 2 threw the flatness of western Montana.

    Keep up the good work.

    ~Chris
  • yay! chris, it is always so good to hear from you. glad you got the button, thanks for wearing it and representing Pedal. good luck w/ grad school. hopefully we'll be talking to / seeing you again soon. :)

also, i love what you said about the artwork... it's exactly what we thought when we first saw it.
  • Chris! :) I'm glad you came by the site, it's good to hear from you. I hope we get a chance to talk to you again for the film, but we have lots of work to do before then ;)

Thanks for putting the button on your bag - good luck at grad school!
  • I like the title! Took me off guard for a moment as I always referred to it as 'Pedal,' but I think it's more inviting as a documentary of a journey, not just some type of a sporting event or how-to segment, as 'Project Pedal' may suggest to viewers who don't know the background. I also really like the graphic-- I take a deep breath every time I see it. I am getting more and more excited to see the final cut!
  • Hey Drea :) Thanks! I know it's quite a shift from just saying "Pedal", but I'm really glad you said that. That's what we were going for ;)

I think that's what I did the first time I saw Patrick's drawing :) took a deep breath, and then crossed my fingers that he'd let us use it. Thanks for the support!
  • perfect
  • Thanks Richard! :)
  • Man i love the new look of the starter webpage or whatever you call it :) that's really great. Oh, and i like the title, it fits the concept of the film very well.
  • Hey Nick :) Thanks - Amanda has been hassling me to keep it simple like it is now :P but I've been getting the urge to mess with it... I guess people are liking it, maybe I shouldn't. And thanks - and I'm glad you like the title. Love you!
  • Well, I gotta say I like it. It sounds like a journey both mentally and physically, and as someone else said, it describes quite nicely your own personal journeys.

    How exciting!
  • thanks!!! i was hoping you would say that ;)
  • Hey Paul :) I'm really glad you got that from the title - thanks!
  • I really like the name of the film and love the new site. As a web designer I'm very inspired at the quality of design displayed on this site. I'm super excited for the release of the film!!
  • Hey Ewcost - thanks! There's a few tiny, tiny, tiny adjustments I'd like to make the main site - for example, when you put your mouse over the boxes, only the title of that box pops up - I'd really like to have a few basic links appear (contact, synopsis, episodes, etc)... but I wasn't savvy enough to get that far.

Thanks again - I'm excited too.
  • There's a similar title: "Thousands of Miles"
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0196155/

and "Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles"
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437447/trailers-sc...

also a really old film (1912): "One Thousand Miles Through the Rockies"
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1118610/

Titles are important, I often rent based on a title that grabs me, so consider more options. Maybe do some word associations -- especially since you're so good with adjectives. Perhaps a double entendre. Something evocative but not a distraction. I can' t say the title doesn't work, but it didn't grab me. You have such good instincts, so go with them.

    It's a journey. It's a discovery. It's not about the bike...

    Just my 2 cents

    p.s.
this was interesting: Journey of a Thousand Faces

  • Hey Wayne :) Yea, I had searched around a bit to see what else was out there title wise, I found the first two on imdb... but figured I could come up with countless titles that would be one or two words away from something else :P

I'd definitely say we went with our instincts on this one - we thought of this very early on, and sat on it for as long as we could. I hope it grows on people :)

Oh, and I was gonna say you should register on disqus - for some reason it always marks your comments as spam... I think because there's a link in it, and then your comment doesn't show up right away :(

Thanks for your thoughts - and for being honest - we know a lot of people will have mixed feelings about it.
  • I just rented "Riding alone for Thousands of Miles" from Blockbuster.com. It was a good story, with stunning cinematography. The director was Zhang Yimou, best known for House of Flying Daggers, and Curse of the Golden Flower. The scenery is breathtaking. I usually avoid movies with subtitles, but the pace of this movie kept it readable without detracting from the visuals. Oddly, it had nothing to do with a bike... but I won't spoil it for you. :)
  • Oh yea :) I've never seen that - but I checked it out and the trailer does look beautiful.

I saw 'House of Flying Daggers', I think, if I'm remember the right film.

Avoid movies with sub-titles!? *gasp* But so many of them are so good. You've seen Amelie, right? That film moves me in so many ways.
  • I just saw Amelie and really liked it, especially the reveal with the mysterious photo guy. I should thank you for the recommendation and in turn pass one on to you.

It does take me longer to view subtitled movies because I'm constantly hitting pause to read the dialog so I don't miss any of the visuals.

So here's the recommendation; Curse of the Golden Flower made my "everyone must see" list. It has a good (but complicated) story and some of the most stunning cinematography and extraordinarily set design I've seen. You should see it sometime, and definitely NOT on a small screen. Borrow a projector, or drive up with some friends and we'll have a movie night here. It's absolutely amazing.
  • Oh good :) yea, I love that film so much.

And I'll add that one to my netflix right now :)
  • hmmm... i thought i was supposed to be in this video. you never came over or called to work on stuff with me... *sigh* just cause you were in a bad mood yesterday.
  • It was late :P I couldn't sleep... sorry.
  • Mike, I'm not sure I love it as much as I love the name "Project Pedal". But I suppose "...Miles" is more reflective of a spiritual and personal odyssey. The artwork is very indie-centric, which compliments the film as a grassroots whole. i wonder what the dvd cover will look like....
  • hey zach, thanks. reflective of a spiritual and personal odyssey... is sort of exactly what we were going for. :)
    great comment!
  • Hey Zach :) It's very different from what people are used, doesn't come off as easily I think... but hopefully it really grows on people - and hopefully find it appropriate for the film once more comes out...

But the title is supposed to be very much "reflective" - the whole film is very reflective.

Patrick's artwork was great - I think it's a fun look for that site, something different than the "grey & white" I've been using for so long.

    Hmm :) I wonder also...
  • Hey I like it. It not only describes the journey taken but I would think it also describes yours and Manda's journey. It's awesome to know that things may be moving a little faster now. And I am still on the ride and still getting high from it :)
  • thanks tif. i think you're right.. could also definitely apply to our journey as well. it would be awesome if things start moving a little faster now.. i hope we can make that happen.
  • Hey Tiff :) Thanks - I'm actually really glad you like it - you've been following the project a long time and I'm worried a lot of people are going to find it strange to not call the film "pedal"...

And yes, it applies to Amanda and I's experiences too - I think we were sold on the title when we told the crew, who has been involved in the film for over four years, and they loved it... they thought it fit perfectly for *every* aspect of the project :)

And yes *finders crossed* I hope things move quickly but not in a rushed way. Thanks for your support!
  • i think it's a great title. i really like the artwork, too. it's a perfect match to the film's mood. congratulations to you all!
  • Hey Paul :) Thanks! I'm glad you like it - it was really kinda' scary picking a title for the film. Yea Patrick is really talented - we got lucky with that.
