I should thank you for the recommendation and in turn pass one on to you.

It does take me longer to view subtitled movies because I'm constantly hitting pause to read the dialog so I don't miss any of the visuals.

So here's the recommendation; Curse of the Golden Flower made my "everyone must see" list. It has a good (but complicated) story and some of the most stunning cinematography and extraordinarily set design I've seen. You should see it sometime, and definitely NOT on a small screen. Borrow a projector, or drive up with some friends and we'll have a movie night here. It's absolutely amazing.

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Oh yea :) I've never seen that - but I checked it out and the trailer does look beautiful.

I saw 'House of Flying Daggers', I think, if I'm remember the right film.

Avoid movies with sub-titles!? *gasp* But so many of them are so good. You've seen Amelie, right? That film moves me in so many ways.

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

I just rented "Riding alone for Thousands of Miles" from Blockbuster.com. It was a good story, with stunning cinematography. The director was Zhang Yimou, best known for House of Flying Daggers, and Curse of the Golden Flower. The scenery is breathtaking. I usually avoid movies with subtitles, but the pace of this movie kept it readable without detracting from the visuals. Oddly, it had nothing to do with a bike... but I won't spoil it for you. :)

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Chris! :) I'm glad you came by the site, it's good to hear from you. Plus I've been waiting for your big announcement since you mentioned it a couple of blogs ago.

The title fits...it says more, more than just a trip on a bike. Perfect!

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Mike,

It's been a while since I have looked on the site but it looks great - glad to see the documentary is finally coming together. I got your letter and I have one of the buttons on my backpack. I'll be in Burlington VT for a while as I have just been accepted to Grad School here. Drop me a line if you're in the area farmers.ride<at>gmail.com

The artwork looks like what I saw as I was approaching glacier national park as I rode down rt 2 threw the flatness of western Montana.

Keep up the good work.

~Chris

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Thanks Richard! :)

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Drea :) Thanks! I know it's quite a shift from just saying "Pedal", but I'm really glad you said that. That's what we were going for ;)

I think that's what I did the first time I saw Patrick's drawing :) took a deep breath, and then crossed my fingers that he'd let us use it. Thanks for the support!

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

I like the title! Took me off guard for a moment as I always referred to it as 'Pedal,' but I think it's more inviting as a documentary of a journey, not just some type of a sporting event or how-to segment, as 'Project Pedal' may suggest to viewers who don't know the background. I also really like the graphic-- I take a deep breath every time I see it. I am getting more and more excited to see the final cut!

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

perfect

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Nick :) Thanks - Amanda has been hassling me to keep it simple like it is now :P but I've been getting the urge to mess with it... I guess people are liking it, maybe I shouldn't. And thanks - and I'm glad you like the title. Love you!

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Man i love the new look of the starter webpage or whatever you call it :) that's really great. I hope it grows on people :)

Oh, and I was gonna say you should register on disqus - for some reason it always marks your comments as spam... I think because there's a link in it, and then your comment doesn't show up right away :(

Thanks for your thoughts - and for being honest - we know a lot of people will have mixed feelings about it.

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Paul :) I'm really glad you got that from the title - thanks!

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Ewcost - thanks! There's a few tiny, tiny, tiny adjustments I'd like to make the main site - for example, when you put your mouse over the boxes, only the title of that box pops up - I'd really like to have a few basic links appear (contact, synopsis, episodes, etc)... but I wasn't savvy enough to get that far.

Thanks again - I'm excited too.

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

It was late :P I couldn't sleep... sorry.

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Zach :) It's very different from what people are used, doesn't come off as easily I think... but hopefully it really grows on people - and hopefully find it appropriate for the film once more comes out...

But the title is supposed to be very much "reflective" - the whole film is very reflective.

Patrick's artwork was great - I think it's a fun look for that site, something different than the "grey & white" I've been using for so long.

Hmm :) I wonder also...

Re: project pedal (blog): for thousands of miles

Hey Tiff :) Thanks - I'm actually really glad you like it - you've been following the project a long time and I'm worried a lot of people are going to find it strange to not call the film "pedal"...

And yes, it applies to Amanda and I's experiences too - I think we were sold on the title when we told the crew, who has been involved in the film for over four years, and they loved it... they thought it fit perfectly for *every* aspect of the project :)

And yes *finders crossed* I hope things move quickly but not in a rushed way.
